Ptarmigan Lake lies in the alpine zone on the east side of Boulder Pass. Many hikers, trailriders, and skiers pause here after reaching the pass to take in the grandeur of Skoki Valley. Ptarmigan Lake and nearby Ptarmigan Peak are aptly named, as we have encountered white-tailed ptarmigan in the area numerous times (not to mention porcupines, marmots, pikas, spruce grouse, loons, eagles, osprey, bighorn sheep, etc.).
