Opabin Lake is another jewel in the Lake O’Hara region. The name Opabin is Nakoda for “rocky”, reflecting a catchment composed primarily of talus slopes and glacial moraines. This lake also highlights the importance of groundwater in alpine lakes as there is no surface outflow and the only surface inflows are small seasonal streams. Nevertheless, Opabin Lake is the primary source of water for Opabin Creek that flows into Lake O’Hara.
